肺動脈性肺高血圧症（PAH）は、肺動脈壁の消失と閉塞性リモデリングにより、肺動脈圧と肺血管抵抗が上昇し、右心不全や機能低下、死に至る重篤な疾患である。この状態の治療には多くの薬剤が使用可能であるが、命に関わる状態が続いており、長期的な治療には高額な費用がかかる。一方、食品中に存在する多くの天然化合物は、いくつかの心血管疾患に有益な効果を有する。いくつかの研究では、PAHに対する天然植物製品の潜在的な有益な効果の多くが調査されています。しかし、栄養補助食品などの天然物がPAHに対する保護および治療効果を発揮するメカニズムは完全には解明されていない。このレビューでは、栄養補助食品に関する現在の知見とPAHの保護と治療におけるその潜在的な使用の可能性を分析するとともに、栄養補助食品がPAHで使用される薬剤の効果を同様のメカニズムで高めることができるかどうかについても分析しています。

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe disease characterized by the loss and obstructive remodeling of the pulmonary arterial wall, causing a rise in pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance, which is responsible for right heart failure, functional decline, and death. Although many drugs are available for the treatment of this condition, it continues to be life-threatening, and its long-term treatment is expensive. On the other hand, many natural compounds present in food have beneficial effects on several cardiovascular conditions. Several studies have explored many of the potential beneficial effects of natural plant products on PAH. However, the mechanisms by which natural products, such as nutraceuticals, exert protective and therapeutic effects on PAH are not fully understood. In this review, we analyze the current knowledge on nutraceuticals and their potential use in the protection and treatment of PAH, as well as whether nutraceuticals could enhance the effects of drugs used in PAH through similar mechanisms.
