歯科医師会、歯磨き粉・歯ブラシメーカー、歯科医院のテキストで推奨されている歯磨きの方法を分析

An analysis of methods of toothbrushing recommended by dental associations, toothpaste and toothbrush companies and in dental texts.

目的:

歯科医師会、歯磨き粉・歯ブラシメーカー、歯学書や専門家などの専門的な情報源から、大人と子供の両方に推奨されている歯磨きの方法を評価すること。次に、情報源ごとに推奨方法を比較し、大人と子供で推奨方法が異なるかどうかを検討する。

OBJECTIVES: To assess the methods of toothbrushing recommended for both adults and children by dental associations, toothpaste and toothbrush companies and professional sources such as in dental textbooks and by experts. Secondly, to compare the advice by source and whether recommendations differed for adults and for children.

方法は以下の通りです。:

歯科医師会、歯磨き粉・歯ブラシ会社、専門的なアドバイスを提供する関連団体、および歯学書から、歯磨き方法に関するオンライン資料を調査。

METHODS: Examination of online material on methods of toothbrushing from dental associations, toothpaste and toothbrush companies and associated organisations providing professional advice; as well as from dental texts.

結果:

歯磨きの方法、歯磨きの頻度、時間については、推奨される方法が多岐にわたっていた。最も多く推奨されていたのはModified Bass techniqueで、19人が推奨していた。11人がBass法を、10人がFones法を、5人がScrub法を推奨していた。歯磨き粉メーカーを中心とした企業が推奨する方法と、歯科医師会が推奨する方法は異なり、歯科医師会の教科書や研究資料に記載されているアドバイスも異なっていました。大人と子供では推奨される歯磨き方法に大きな違いが見られた。

RESULTS: There was a wide diversity between recommendations on toothbrushing techniques, how often people should brush their teeth and for how long. The most common method recommended was the Modified Bass technique, by 19. Eleven recommended the Bass technique, ten recommended the Fones technique and five recommended the Scrub technique. The methods recommended by companies, mainly toothpaste companies, differed from those of dental associations, as did advice in dental textbooks and research-based sources. There was a wide difference in the toothbrushing methods recommended for adults and for children.

結論:

どのような歯磨き方法が推奨されているかについて、許容できないほどの多様性があることは、歯科関係者にとって懸念すべきことである。歯磨きに関するガイドラインを作成する専門機関に情報を提供するためには、歯磨き方法の有効性を示すより高度な証拠が必要である。

CONCLUSIONS: The unacceptably large diversity in recommendations on what toothbrushing method to use should concern the dental profession. Higher grades of evidence of effectiveness of toothbrushing techniques are required to inform professional bodies that develop guidelines on toothbrushing.
